Response to New Coronavirus – February 3, 2020

The new coronavirus infection has been classified as a “designated infectious disease” by the Japanese government. So students, faculty and staff are advised to take the following precautions to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

Please check the information and instructions from the Chinese and Japanese governments and take the local situation into consideration. As of January 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan says that hazard level 3 (No traveling abroad) was set for Hubei Province, China, and that hazard level 2 (No unnecessary and non-urgent travel) was set for other regions in China.
As influenza is also prevalent at this time of the year, please get into a strict routine/habit of regularly washing your hands (upon returning home, before meals, etc.) with sufficient sleep and nutrition. If you have any symptoms including a cough, sneezing, a runny nose, sore throat, or a fever, please ensure that you wear a mask.
Furthermore, please never fail to check the latest information, and especially anybody who is scheduled to travel to China should reexamine the necessity of their travel plans and consider cancelling or postponing their trip.
