The response to a case of contact with a person infected with COVID-19 while the omicron variant is the mainstream strain has been published in the “COVID-19 manual (May 2020, Saitama University)”, but now, in response to inquiries we have received, we would like to reiterate the following information.
【In case of contact with an infected person on campus】
Students, faculty, and staff will not be restricted from going outside, including going to school or work, solely because they had contact with an infected person on campus. In this case, please check your health condition by yourself, such as by taking your temperature, until seven days have passed since the last day of contact.
In addition, please avoid contact with people who are at high risk of serious infection (hereinafter referred to as “high-risk persons”), such as the elderly or those with underlying medical conditions, unnecessary visiting to facilities for the elderly or children with disabilities or medical institutions where many high-risk people are admitted or hospitalized, and using places with a high risk of infection, eating at restaurants, etc.
If you have symptoms, please visit a medical institution as soon as possible.
【In case of eating and drinking together on campus without taking countermeasures against infection】
If you had contact with an infected person on campus and shared food or drink without taking infection control measures, please stay at home for 5 days from the last day of contact (lifted from the 6th day). However, if a test using a antigen test kit is conducted on the 2nd and 3rd days and the test results are negative, the waiting period will be lifted from the 3rd day.
Even in this case, until 7 days have elapsed, own health condition should be by taking a temperature, etc., a mask should be worn, and other infection control measures should be taken. And please avoid contact with high-risk persons, unnecessary visiting to facilities or medical institutions where many high-risk persons are admitted or hospitalized, and using places with a high risk of infection, eating at restaurants, etc.
【In case that a person living together is infected】
If a person living together with an infected person who eats, drinks, bathes, sleeps, etc. is infected, the person who had a close contact with the infected person must take infection control measures for 5 days from the day of onset of the infection (or the day of specimen collection if the infected person is asymptomatic) or the day when infection control measures were taken in the residence due to the onset of the infection, whichever is later, regardless of whether the person is identified as a close contact by the public health center.
However, if a test using an antigen test kit is conducted on the second and third days and the test results are negative, the waiting period will be lifted from the 3rd day.
【Response during the waiting period】
○Student
During the waiting period, students are required to suspend their attendance in accordance with Article 19 of the School Health and Safety Law.
○Faculty and Staff
During the waiting period, full-time faculty and staff must take special leave. And part-time faculty and staff should take paid leave other than annual leave. However, if the patient is asymptomatic, or if the symptoms are mild and the patient judges that it will not interfere with his/her work, he/she should notify the supervisor and work at home instead of taking a leave of absence.
